The start of 2014 is exciting 4 many in the Battlerap world.
Not only is High Stakes & Blackout 4 @ the end of month.
The 1st weekend of the new month saw 2 events come to light.
Both events are from smaller leauges and hopefully both are here 2 stay.
New Years Order is on Sat 1/4/1 4 (Rare Breed)) and EBL's Breaking Point event is the very next day (Sun 1/5/14)
While Both cards are good IMO
They both differ in terms of appeal tbh
The New Years Order card offers odd matchups , with a dose of the old vs the new format (While Breaking Point is kinda a unofficial Smack Event)
Both also happen 2 be booked on the same weekend.
Which is great if it was a KOTD style 2 day event.
Having 2 totally different events on the same weekend in 12 degree weather is reaching in NYC IMO
Many probably approached the dilemma the same way I did........
I had a tuff choice 2 make
Because I was not spending both of my days off standing up for 6+ hours
I chose Breaking Point and it was off 2 queens by myself
This is what I saw...................
-Location was def a problem IMO
Club perfections is no where near a train station lol
-Tickets differ @ the door depending on who u asked.
I heard it was 70$ bucks @ the door (wow)
Later on I heard it was actually 40$
(way 2 go shitting on the online purchases

-The Venue was a Strip club , which 2 me brought both positive & negatives to the equation. The positives were obvious (women) and the negative were ?
(we'll get in2 that next)
-Security was tight !
As the norm with NYC Battlerap events , I was vigorously searched upon entry. Security found the sour I tried 2 conceal. Shouts 2 security tho cause they still let me in. Despite having no valid ID and weed on me.
-The crowd was somewhere between 40-60 people.
-The actual room where the battles were held was kinda big , for a closed off section of a strip club.
-SHOUT OUTS &GUEST
-Every battlerapper on the card
-EBL and it's entire staff
-Security for letting me in :)
-Bones B,Norbes,Smack (4 hosting), Ah di boom ,Big Kannon,Ms.Gracie, Jaz , Graph and all the other guest I'm missing
-OTBVA.com/Rap Grid.com and all the Battlerap related sites out there
THE BATTLES
-MERRICK vs DUTCH MONTEGA
1st battle of the night was a 1 rounder featuring 2 up and coming locals.
Dutch started it off 1st and while he was ok , he lacked the originality that would have made him memorable here. Merrick like Dutch was ok but suffered the same fate in the being original department
-BARS McVEIGH vs BLACK BEARD
(2nd battle of the night was just like the 1st)
2 locals I never heard of engaging in a 1 rounder.
Bars went 1st and immediately lost the crowd.
Black beared stepped up and won by default for saying
"it's ok y'all can come back now , it's my turn".
LMAO
-J.C vs DANJA ZONE
(1st of all Props goes 2 Danja for taking on both JC and Goodz on the same weekend)
J.C starts the battle attacking Danja status in the Battlerap world. Danja responds by making sure the crowd remembers J.C's last 3 performances.
Battle was like a see saw with all the momentum shifts.
Danja Zone has to be taking serious from this point on.
-KSHINE vs CORTEZ
Another reason I chose this event was because of the somewhat history of certain battles (This battle is a great example of that type of thinking)
Tez starts off 1st , he's very clean and consistent.
Shine is up and like his rep , his energy engulfs the room.
The only downside of that was Shine incredibly short rounds.
Shine had the opportunity 2 steal the 1st 2 rounds but its funny how short rounds can change perception
CHARLIE CLIPS vs CHILLA JONES
Weird battle tbh
(At the onset of the battle , Clips is seen holding a cup of tea on stage)
Clips informs the crowd that he is sick but still wants to battle.
Chilla starts it off , playing up angles of Clips switching up his style.
When it was Clips turn, he took his time and sounded like Hitman Holla.
Clips strongest was his 1st and even then Chilla appeared to edged him.
Sucks 4 Chilla case he beard the brunt of the crowd displeasure & disappointment.
After Chilla's 3rd the crowd is informed the battle is officially over
Clips grabbed the mic and promises a rematch.
[MAIN EVENT]
-DNA vs CALICOE
DNA starts the last battle off and immediately takes the crowd through the various hoods of queens. DNA played it safe with the typical local patriotism tactic. Cal is up next and he's spitting nonchalant and carefree. The 1st is still up 4 debate IMO. The 2nd is much the same except Cal turned his focused on somebody in the crowd (it fuckedup his round)
The 3rd is going to be left up 2 the fans.
DNA was ok and it was likely Cal strongest round.
Overall was the event was a success?
I wouldn't go so far to call it that , the same way I wouldn't call Breaking Point a failure.
Being booked on the same weekend (with New Years Order) really hurt the event overall IMO
I really would have liked to attend and covered both events but what do I know right?
I'm just another face in the crowd...................................
